Final Project

Our Final Project for Photojournalism and the Web was due yesterday, and my group and I had been working on it for hours and hours over the last few weeks. My group chose to do a story on a therapeutic riding center for people with disabilities.

We wanted to chose something that mattered, that had emotion, and that was about people making a difference – We ended up being so lucky that we chose what we did. The students, staff and volunteers at Riding Unlimited were all very helpful and really made the days we spent out there a pleasure.

I learned a lot through this project – I was exposed and spent time with new technologies and equipment, and while I havent mastered them, I do feel that I have a familiarity with them now, that allows me to further learn and grow. This class ended up being the class I learnt most from while here at UNT.

Here is a link to the final project – Enjoy –

Review of Multimedia Sites

For this week’s out of class assignments we were challenged to look at a view different sites that offer heavy mutlimedia content and give our critique.

CBC

My intitial feel and opinion of the CBC website is that it appears to be rather dated. The website offers simple multimedia content that does just enough to enhance the given information. I feel that the media was semi obscure and difficult to find without a through investigation into the site. One of the appeals of media is its ability to draw you into the content. Because of this I feel that the media should be easily accessible and one of the first things a visitor is encouraged to investigate.

As I delved deeper into the site I was able to find good use of video, audio, and interactive content.

Churchill’s Speeches

The second site I reviewed was one that covered some of Churchill’s speeches and delivered them through various forms of media. The site contained easilly accessible media, a cool and interactive timeline, real audio and simple navigation.

The site gives good background information and most importantly puts the user in the audience for the famous “Iron Curtain” speech.

I learned to use audacity today… I also learned that I need to get better at asking questions… My problem was trying to ask questions that induced more than a yes or no. The other problem was getting the subject to give the context of the question in her answers. I think next time I will ask two part questions in hopes that they will restate the question as they answer each question.

Here is my first audio edit.

With the heat of August comes a mountain of papers, rules, guidelines, schedules, and responsibilities. The overlooked element, which slips in without much attention amongst the logistical clutter and noise, is the opportunity for personal growth.

I am excited today for the opportunity to learn some practical skills. I hope that the class’s structure, intensity, and depth match my expectations.

I hope to gain practical knowledge and skill when it comes to taking the things I know about photography and implementing them in a new medium, video.
